IN ORDER TO BECOME A BOY SCOUT YOU MUST: * Be a boy who has completed the fifth grade, or who has earned the Arrow of Light Award, or be 11 years of age but not yet 18. * Find a Scout troop near your home. Go to the official boy scout website: www.scouting.org, and click on the local councils link. Enter your city, state and zip code to find your area council, where you can find the nearest troop / pack to you. * Complete the Boy Scout joining requirements. JOINING REQUIREMENTS: At your first troop meeting, your Scoutmaster will explain the following joining requirements of the Boy Scouts of America: * Submit a completed Boy Scout application and health history signed by your parent of guardian. * Repeat the Pledge of Allegiance. * Demonstrate the Scout salute, sign, and handclasp. * Show how to tie the square knot (also known as the joining knot). * Understand and agree to live by the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, the Scout motto, the Scout slogan, and the Outdoor Code. * Describe the Scout badge. * With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet "How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse and Drug Abuse. * Participate in a Scoutmaster conference. When you have completed these, welcome! You are a Scout! Your Scoutmaster will give you a certificate of membership, and you can proudly wear the Boy Scout badge and uniform. You may also subscribe to "Boys Life," the monthly magazine that is full of exciting articles for and about Scouts.
